PUBLIC is a bi-annual interdisciplinary peer-reviewed art journal based in Toronto. It is committed to showcasing innovative ideas and exiting creative projects. Its mandate is to exist as an intellectual and creative forum, providing a space for in depth perspectives on the theoretical and critical issues that intersect with art and visual culture. PUBLIC fosters a broad dialogue by bringing together artists, theorists, curators, philosophers, creative writers, and historians; by consistently publishing a strong program of contemporary artists projects; by experimenting with the delivery mechanisms offered by alternative technologies (eg DVDs); and by inviting guest editors from a variety of communities and organizations. Content of each 144+ page, theme-based issue is selected through a combination of a call for papers/projects, and by invitation. This, along with book and exhibit reviews, creates an assemblage of artists projects and original writing on prescient contemporary themes in art and culture.
